Attending Sessions

I work with all clients in a professional manner. I ask that you do not attend therapy sessions under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Session Times and Personal Space

Your session times are valuable to you as this is your “space”. Being prepared is an essential part of any therapy. If you are attending a remote session, please ensure you have a comfortable, safe, and private space to work from. A cup of tea (or whatever you prefer) and a pen and paper for note making can be useful.

All session times are 50 minutes in length and are conducted at a mutually agreeable time.

Therapy uses energy and at times can bring up a lot of emotions, so it’s important that you allow yourself a bit of time and space to process after each session in the interest of your well-being. Ensure you do not have to rush off for an appointment immediately after a session. Taking time to have a cup of tea or a glass of water and doing something you enjoy like reading or listening to music for 5 – 10 mins after each session is recommended.

Reviews and Ending of Sessions

Part of our therapy process will involve regular reviews. This is to ensure that the work we do is progressing and that you are still receiving what you feel you need from our sessions together.

All therapy eventually comes to an end and as such, regular reviews help to plan appropriately. This in recognition that well managed endings are an important part of the therapeutic process.

Confidentiality, Anonymity and Breeches

The work we do together is confidential. However, there are particular occasions when counsellors have a duty of care and responsibility to break this confidentiality. This is in line with the BACP code of ethical guidelines for counsellors and psychotherapists. The need to break confidentiality focuses on keeping the client and others safe from harm. If I feel a disclosure poses a genuine risk for either your own safety or that of others, then I am duty bound to raise that concern with the appropriate professionals in order to gain further support for you. However, I would always discuss this with you beforehand.

Discussing your Therapy

The work we do together is confidential, as such I ensure all information is kept safe and secure. I request that you observe the same confidentiality. For example, it would not be appropriate to post any written correspondence between us from our work together onto social media.

Supervision

As part of my professional practice which adheres to the BACP ethical guidelines, I attend regular supervision. Supervision is a process of reviewing the work I undertake with clients with a fully qualified supervisor. This helps ensure I am working safely, professionally and in the best interests of my clients. Client anonymity is fully observed, so you would never be at risk of identification. The only discussion points would be centred on aspects of work we do together.

Own Personal Security

Data Protection
