What To Expect From Counselling

I believe there is no ‘one size fits all’ and therefore it can be difficult to know what to expect from counselling. We are all individuals and, as such, it stands to reason that different types of therapy suit different people. With that in mind, I work integratively, to tailor therapy to fit each client rather than the other way around. I respect and accept each client as a whole, taking into account individual needs and personal circumstances.

What To Expect From Counselling – Integrative Counselling

Integrative counselling combines different aspects of psychological therapies with the view that there are so many ways to explore and understand our ways of thinking, feeling and behaving. It’s important to me to find what fits best for you personally.

We can work together to identify what factors are perpetuating problems for you and find ways to make the positive changes necessary to help you reach your full potential.

We will explore, together, what works for you and as you develop a deeper sense of self awareness, you will gain a meaningful understanding of what makes you tick. I will endeavour to help you move towards a place of self-acceptance. Ironically, it is only when we truly accept ourselves for who and what we are that we are then in a position to change. I will support you to make those positive changes in your life to reach your own personal goals.

I will provide you with a non-judgmental, accepting and positive space. I will work with your goals, encouraging you to face each moment openly and authentically with self-acceptance. This relaxed approach will help you uncover the fears and hurts that have been holding you back.

It’s only when we recognise the specific triggers which lead to unhelpful patterns of behaviour, we can then begin to make the necessary changes.

Through self-awareness, we can create a healthy balance between our minds and body, our thoughts and behaviours. This empowers us to continue to show up for ourselves and commit to practicing new, more positive behaviours. This leads us to move beyond our limitations of fear to reap the rewards of living the life we deserve.

I hope the above has helped to explain what to expect from counselling. Life is unpredictable, so I will adapt your therapy with you over the course of your counselling journey to include any life changes which may occur.

There is no set time frame for a course of counselling with me. Each session will be 50 minutes but the overall course of therapy will be open-ended, dependent on your needs and goals.
