What is anxiety?

Anxiety Counselling?

Anxiety can be described as a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, usually about an upcoming event or something with an uncertain outcome, but sometimes, it can be a pervasive feeling seemingly with no known source. However alarming the sensation of anxiety can feel, it’s a completely normal emotion everyone can experience from time to time. However, some people may experience anxiety to an excessive and persistent degree and the experience can  feel disabling, particularly if it interferes with daily life.

As a counsellor in Leigh On Sea, I have worked with many clients who have struggled with some of the following common symptoms of anxiety:

Everyone experiences anxiety differently. Some may only have a few of these symptoms while others may experience many. Whatever symptoms you may be struggling with, it’s important to seek help if your anxiety is interfering with your daily life or causing you significant distress.

In my counselling practice we can work on Anxiety Counselling In Leigh On Sea we can work together to find the best way for you to manage anxiety. Firstly, we would investigate the source of anxiety, then take steps to reduce it. This can include relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing, mindfulness, and progressive muscle relaxation. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy I have used successfully with many clients. This method helps identify and change negative thought patterns that can contribute to anxiety.

In addition, there are measures you can take personally to reduce symptoms. These could include exercise, healthy eating and ensuring you try to get enough sleep. Some people may find anxiety targeting medications useful. This can be prescribed by your GP.

When you are suffering from anxiety, although it may feel like a daunting task, it is important to reach out for help. There are many resources available to help you manage anxiety. You could talk to a trusted friend or family member, seek professional help from a mental health professional such as myself, join a support group, or use reliable online resources. Remember you are not alone. Anxiety is a common mental health condition. According to Mental Health UK, it is estimated there are over 8 million people suffering with anxiety at any one time. It may not feel as though there are people who can help you, but trusting in the process of reaching out for support is the first step and here at Copeland Counselling I will be happy to help you begin your journey to a life free of anxiety.
